Changes ahead…

Posted by David 2 on March 27, 2014

Greetings to all of the Guardian fans still out there!

GotD-Star3

There are some changes ahead for this website.  Most of these changes will involve the comic pages and will involve the transition over to the Battlerock Comics website.  This is something that should have been done over a year ago but we never really got around to finishing.  Back then we simply punted over there and put up links to send you to the pages here.

Well, the pages will still be around, but now we’re going to reverse things and have them link to their appropriate pages over at Battlerock Comics.

But that is not the only set of changes going on!

We’re getting ready for… something.  Something that some of you have been waiting a long time for.  Some of you may even know what it is.  If you don’t, don’t worry because it will become very clear real soon.

All I can say right now is… stick around.

Transistioning over to Battlerock Comics

Posted by David 2 on February 16, 2013

With the release of the new “Future’s Guardian” series, this website will go into archive mode.

The blog posts, previous polls, and past issues of three comic series are still here and will remain active.  You are free to view and enjoy the many adventures that come from these comics.

But all future news and updates will be at the new Battlerock Comics website.

BattlerockComics-WebBanner

Will this site become “active” again?  Who knows?

Certainly if City of Heroes were to become active again we would do so.  But for now, we need to move forward.

Thank you for your support over the past few years, and hopefully you will continue to enjoy the adventures told over at Battlerock Comics.

Battlerock Comics Announced

Posted by David 2 on December 24, 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Get Brutal Productions Announces Creation of Battlerock Comics

Georgia – December 24, 2012Get Brutal Productions, a one-man production company designed to highlight various multimedia services, has announced the creation of a subsidiary production group specifically designed for fan-made comic books.

Battlerock Comics will service as an online center for all comics published by Get Brutal Productions.   This will encompass both the comics previously published by writer/creator David 2 and the new comics that will be released in 2013.

Writer/Creator David 2 began work with online comics in 2009 with “Guardians of the Dawn Spotlight”, a regular fan-made not-for-profit series that used characters created in the “City of Heroes” Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game owned by NCSoft.  Eventually three regular series were created using characters in the “City of Heroes” game, including “Spotlight”, “Tales from Paragon City”, and “The Guardian Powers”.  David 2 also worked with other fan-made comic artists on several projects, including creating stories and cover designs to the “City of Comic Creators Compendium” series, and a comical “video-comic” series on YouTube called “Ask Captain Catastrophe”.

The first series under the Battlerock Comics title will be “Future’s Guardian”, another regular fan-made not-for-profit series that uses characters in the “Champions Online” MMORPG as provided by Perfect World Entertainment.  The series follows from an earlier series published online in 2011 called “The Lost Adventures of Galatea Future”, which will end with its fourth issue to transition the characters over to the new series.

David 2 points out that online comic series provide a way for fans of comic books to appreciate the world of online multiplayer gaming and even encourages readers to participate.

“Fan-made comics give the MMO providers something they otherwise would never have,” he said, “and that is free advertising for their game.  Traditionally they would have to work with established comic book publishers like Dark Horse or Image Comics, and their representations would barely match the detail in the MMO itself.  With fan-made comics, readers see the issue, they see the images from the game, the detail of the characters in that game, they realize that this is an environment that they can interact in themselves, and they see all of the references to the game itself, namely where they can find it.”

Meanwhile in that other world…

Posted by David 2 on December 19, 2012

While the stories of the Guardians are almost at an end, with the 2012 Special coming out next week, some of you may be wondering about that “OTHER” world I keep on mentioning, with that “OTHER” Galatea.

You know… the one from the “Time and Changes” storyline?  She appeared briefly in flashback in “The Guardian Powers” #15, but as visitors to this website know, she didn’t just disappear as Doc Tor implied happened.

It’s been a little over a year since “The Lost Adventures of Galatea Future” followed what happened to that “other” Galatea after “Time and Changes” and the changes in her renewed life that followed.

So what has she been up to since then?

Well you’re going to find out some of it after Christmas with Issue #4 of “The Lost Adventures of Galatea Future”.

Taking place in January of this year, our time-lost “Last Guardian” comes back from spending the holidays with a couple of “Canadian heroes” from the 80’s (no, seriously, eh?) only to find what little she has was stolen from her.  Who did it and why?  You’ll just have to wait a week to find out what she does.

Oh, and those “Canadian heroes” are in-game.  That’s not a joke.

In the meantime, get your tuques, grab a cold one (preferably mouse-free) and fire up the back-bacon.  “The Lost Adventures of Galatea Future” #4 will be online on December 26th.

Untold Stories – “Debts of Honor”

Posted by David 2 on December 16, 2012

The following is one of many planned storylines for “The Guardian Powers” series that will never be told because of the closing of the City of Heroes MMO.  The information presented here shows the level of planning and preparation that was put into the comic series.

Storyline: Debts of Honor
Status:
Untold

Members of the Libra Order are finally given their “payback” against the former members of the Guardians of the Dawn.  Most of these are instigated by Mistress Libra.

In “Guardians of the Dawn Spotlight” #17, several members of the Guardians of the Dawn were allowed to impersonate known members of the Libra Order for a mission directed by John Cole to secure vital secrets that were about to be sold on the Black Market.  In that operation, Lyon Powers impersonated Isea, MidKnight X impersonated Tyrannus 4, Omega Shift assumed the guise of Misty Mysery, and – in a bit of a distraction – UltraaLady was made over to look like Galatea Powers.  While the operation succeeded, the impersonations had negative consequences to the members of the Libra Order as they were blamed for the actions of their counterparts.

Misty Mysery was previously given an opportunity for payback against the Guardians, only to fail miserably by the appearance of Rocky Rockrocker.  In “The Guardian Powers” #8, following the release of John Cole from the Order, the mysterious Libra tells Tainted Eve “Gather my forces.  The Debts of Honor must now be paid.”

In the story that could not be told, Mistress Libra follows through with the promised payback.

Isea has a one-on-one fight with Lyon Powers, using super-enhanced devices that overwhelm Lyon’s elemental powers.

Tyarnnus 4 looks for MidKnight X, but encounters Icon Powers instead.  Icon has to use his new “tactical armor” to face the clone of young Statesman.

Misty Mysery tries to find Omega Shift, but does not realize that the shapeshifter has retreated to her PNN personality and does not know who she really is.  She ends up going one-on-one with Captain Paragonna and loses – much to her frustration, since she was previously bested by Whyspera.

UltraaLady takes on Galatea Powers, but clearly is overpowered and quickly defeated.

Eventually Tainted Eve steps in to put an end to the vendetta, but realizes that her authority in the Order is in jeopardy.

This story could not be told because of the announced closing of the MMO.

Additional Notes: This was a storyline that I originally wanted to do as a follow-up from the events seen in “Guardians of the Dawn Spotlight” #17.  There was a hint of this in “Spotlight” #27, but was never developed because of the ending of the series in #28.

Untold Stories – The New Avenger

Posted by David 2 on December 7, 2012

This is the first of several stories and storylines that were originally developed for “The Guardian Powers” that could never be told due to the closing of City of Heroes.  These show the level of commitment that was invested into the comic series and in the MMO in general.

Storyline: The New Avenger
Status:
Untold

A new archer calling himself the Libertarian Avenger is seen in Paragon City.  Wentworth’s CEO Andrew Wentworth believes that it is Alex, even though his injuries prevent him from drawing a bow.  The new Avenger behaves a lot like Alex and even has his voice, but wears Vanguard-based armor.  This causes the elder Wentworth to assume that Alex has broken their “agreement”.

The Guardians attempt to track down this new Avenger, only to find he mysteriously disappears.

It is eventually discovered that the imposter is really Omega Shift, the shape-shifting former Guardian that carries inside of her the genetics and personalities of dozens of different people.  Following the traumatic devastation of Galaxy City, May Shift retreated into the persona of PNN Reporter April Hernandez.  While she continues to operate as April Hernandez and is subconsciously refusing to admit that she is anything but, her need for justice results in her taking on Alex’s persona (whom she briefly impersonated several times prior to his assassination attempt to help keep Alex’s dual identity safe).

The “persona” is eventually purged from May Shift’s mind, but she continues to carry on the illusion that she really is April Hernandez.  It does inspire Alex to explore the possibility of using Vanguard technology to resurrect his own hero career.

The storyline could not be developed even though the outfit was completed for the Avenger.  It also called for an appearance by Freedom Phalanx member Sister Psyche, which became problematic after the developers killed her off in the in-game “Who Will Die” storyline.
